International Driving Permits

AAA is the largest leisure Travel Agency in North America, and one of only two authorized distributors of IDPs as designated by the U.S. Department of State.

So, before you travel the world, travel to any AAA office and pick up your International Driving Permit (IDP) ... even if you do not plan to drive abroad. Should you need to communicate with foreign authorities, this internationally recognizable form of identification can help you get on your way more quickly.

Valid in more than 150 countries, the permit contains your name, photo, and driver information translated into ten languages.

These licenses are not intended to replace valid U.S. state licenses and should only be used as a supplement to a valid license.

In-Office

If you'd like to complete the IDP application in advance, print the online application, complete it, and bring it to an AAA office.

All you need is your valid U.S. driver's license, $15 plus tax (two original passport-style photos (also available at AAA offices), and a completed IDP application.

By Mail ~ Drivers still in the U.S.A.

If you'd rather obtain your IDP through the mail, package your completed application form, two original passport-style photos a photocopy of both sides of your driver's license, and $16.34 (the $15 permit fee, $1.34 tax and $1 for domestic mailing) and mail it to the following address listed below.

By Mail - Drivers currently outside of U.S.A.

If you are currently overseas, you mail your completed application to the below address. Please include $20.34 (the $15 permit fee, $1.34 tax, plus $4 for international mailing). We recommend using an overnight service such as Airborne, FedEx or UPS; include one of these carriers mailers as a self-addressed return stamped envelope.
